A Little Preparation Makes a Big Difference
Your newborn photography session is one of the most important photo sessions you will ever have — and with a tiny, unpredictable baby in the mix, a little advance preparation goes a long way. This guide covers everything you need to know before arriving at Infantacy Studio in Kanpur, so your session runs smoothly and produces the beautiful results you're hoping for.
When to Book
Book your session during your second trimester. Newborn sessions must happen within the first 5–14 days after birth. This window is very narrow, and our slots fill months in advance. Booking early during pregnancy means you're confirmed — we adjust the actual session date once your baby arrives and contact us.
Feeding Before the Session
Feed your baby as close to the start of the session as possible — ideally 30–45 minutes before arriving. A full, comfortable baby settles faster, sleeps more deeply, and poses more naturally. If you are breastfeeding, please plan to feed on demand throughout the session. We always allow time for feeds between setups — this is completely normal and expected.
Keep Baby Warm
Our studio is kept warm — warmer than you might expect — because babies settle faster and stay asleep longer in a warm environment. Dress your baby in easy-to-remove clothing (a simple bodysuit, no complicated buttons). Avoid mittens if possible, as hand detail shots are some of the most beautiful images from the session.
What to Wear — Parents
For parent and family photos within the session, we recommend neutral tones — cream, white, soft grey, blush, or earthy tones. Avoid busy patterns or logos. Simple, coordinated outfits photograph beautifully and keep the focus on your faces and your baby rather than the clothing.
What to Bring
- Extra nappies and wipes (more than you think you need)
- A change of clothes for the baby
- Any personal props — a special toy, a family heirloom, a meaningful blanket
- Snacks and drinks for parents — sessions run 2–3 hours
- Your feeding supplies (bottle or nursing cover)
On the Day — What to Expect
Newborn sessions are led by your baby, not the clock. We cycle through 3–4 themed setups, allowing plenty of time between each for feeding, settling, and diaper changes. Some babies settle in 20 minutes; others take longer. We never rush. The session ends when we have everything we need, not when a timer goes off.
Siblings at the Session
Siblings are warmly welcome and included in the session. We recommend scheduling sibling photos early in the session while energy and patience are at their highest. After sibling shots, a second adult can take older children to a nearby café while we complete the newborn setups.
Final Tip
Relax. The most common anxiety parents bring to a newborn session is "what if baby won't cooperate?" In over a decade of newborn photography in Kanpur, every baby has cooperated — some just take a little more time and patience than others. Trust the process, trust your photographer, and enjoy this precious time with your newest family member.
