The Milestone That Deserves the Most Planning
Of all the sessions in a baby's first year, the 1 year photoshoot is the one parents plan furthest in advance — and for good reason. It closes out the milestone journey, it usually involves the most moving parts (theme, cake, outfits, sometimes family), and it produces the images that get printed, framed, and shared at the birthday party itself. Step 1: Decide What the Session Includes
A full 1 year session at Infantacy Studio typically has three parts, and you don't have to book all three:
- Portrait segment — clean, classic shots of your baby in their first outfit, before anything gets messy
- Cake smash segment — the themed backdrop, the smash cake, and the unscripted joy (or confusion, which is equally adorable)
- Family segment — parents and siblings joining for a handful of portraits, usually done first while everyone is still camera-ready
Step 2: Choose Your Theme Early
Popular 2026 themes we're booking most often in Kanpur include jungle safari, boho neutral with dried florals, and pastel "wild one" setups. Whatever you choose, lock in the theme at least 3–4 weeks ahead — this gives us time to source matching props, backdrop, and cake colour-matching with your baker.
Step 3: Plan the Outfit Sequence
Most parents bring two outfits: something clean and structured for the portrait segment, and something simple (a nappy cover, a bloomer, or a onesie) for the cake smash, since it will not survive contact with frosting. If a family segment is included, coordinate parent outfits in complementary — not matching — tones.
Step 4: Book Around Nap and Feed Times
A 1-year-old session runs 90 minutes to 2 hours including setup and outfit changes. Book the start time around your baby's most alert window, and avoid scheduling right before an expected nap — a tired one-year-old has little patience for a smash cake photoshoot, ironically.
Step 5: Decide on the Cake
You can bring your own smash cake or use our recommended local bakers who know how to colour-match a cake to a specific theme. Either way, confirm the cake size and colours with us ahead of the session so the backdrop, props, and cake form one cohesive frame.

Yes — most families shoot 1–2 weeks before the birthday so prints and albums are ready in time for the party itself.
What if my baby doesn't like the cake?
Completely normal, and often the funniest photos of the whole gallery. We always capture the tentative first touch, the confused stare, and the eventual (sometimes reluctant) dive in — whichever way it goes, it's a real, honest reaction worth keeping.
